Today as we fast, remember this: fasting isn’t about deprivation—it’s about desire. Jonathan Edwards said fasting helps “animate and engage devotion,” showing that our hunger for God is greater than our hunger for food.

Edwards himself lived this out. He often set whole days aside just to fast and pray—sometimes when his town faced crisis, sometimes when he longed for revival, and sometimes simply because he wanted more of God’s mercy. He reminded people that Jesus didn’t say if you fast, but when you fast (Matthew 6:16–18).

Fasting wasn’t just for preachers or old saints—it was for every believer. Edwards even told young people like you that when life gets hard, or when you need God’s help, set apart time for fasting and prayer.

What makes this real is that Edwards didn’t just talk about it—he lived it. His thin frame showed that his deepest hunger was for God’s presence and power. When he called others to fast, they knew he had already been crying out on his face before God.

So today, let’s do the same. Let’s humble ourselves, repent, and cry out for God’s mercy—not just for us, but for revival in our schools, churches, and across America.

“But you, when you fast, anoint your head and wash your face, so that you do not appear to men to be fasting, but to your Father who is in the secret place; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly.” (Matthew 6:17–18)

Your hunger is not in vain. Let’s press in together!

Blessings in Christ,
