Wednesday Fast & Prayer – Walk Like Jesus, Fueled by the Gospel
Thank you for continuing to join the Wednesday fast and prayer! God is moving mightily through your sacrifice and powerful intercession (James 5:16)!
Prayer Points:
As we fast and pray tomorrow, we look to Jesus—not just as our Savior, but as our example. Before launching His public ministry, Jesus, the Creator of the universe in human flesh, chose to fast. He didn’t need to prove anything. He had all power. And yet He submitted Himself to suffering, to hunger, and to the fire of spiritual battle.
“Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. And after He had fasted for forty days and forty nights, He then became hungry.” —Matthew 4:1–2
In the wilderness, Jesus humbled Himself. He emptied Himself. And He showed us what it looks like to walk in the will of God—even when it hurts.
Jesus wasn’t fasting for self-improvement. He was fasting in obedience to the Father. He was aligning with the gospel mission that would lead all the way to the cross.
And in His weakest physical moment, Satan came. He tempted Jesus with food, with power, with shortcuts to glory. But Jesus didn’t fight back with emotions or opinions—He used the Word of God.
“But He answered and said, ‘It is written, “Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes out of the mouth of God.”' —Matthew 4:4
This is how we overcome—not with noise, but with Scripture. Not by striving, but by surrender. Jesus fasted to obey. He fasted to prepare. He fasted to battle. And He overcame.
He didn’t just survive the wilderness—He emerged in the power of the Spirit. (Luke 4:14)
This is the way of the gospel. The path of brokenness leads to breakthrough. The way down leads to the power from above. The cross always comes before the resurrection.
So why do we fast today?
We fast because we want to walk in His footsteps.
We fast because our pride must break so our hearts can listen.
We fast because this generation needs more than hype—it needs holiness.
We fast not to earn God's love but because we already have it (fast the world/feast on God's love!)
Let’s fast like Jesus:
Dependent on the Word
Resisting temptation
Led by the Spirit
Focused on the Father
Armed with the gospel
Today, we empty ourselves not to feel spiritual—but to be filled with Him. We say no to our flesh so we can say yes to the mission. We silence the distractions so we can hear His voice.
Let’s pray today:
For students to feast on God’s Word and resist the lies of the enemy
For revival that starts with humility, repentance, and gospel surrender
For the Church to follow Jesus into the wilderness—not to escape the world, but to prepare for kingdom impact
For laborers to rise up, rooted in the cross and carrying the gospel boldly
Jesus fasted. Jesus was tempted. Jesus overcame. And now He lives in us. Let’s fast and pray like Him—full of faith, grounded in the gospel, and burning with love.
“He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death—death on a cross. For this reason also, God highly exalted Him…” —Philippians 2:8–9
The way of Jesus requires sacrifice—but it’s the only way that leads to true life. Let’s walk in it together in this gospel mission!
United for the harvest,
