Sitting with the Great Physician, Forgiveness, Healing, and Abiding in Christ

It is easy to let guilt or self-condemnation drive us into hiding. When we realize our own mistakes, weaknesses, or moral failures, our natural instinct is often to retreat from God rather than draw near to Him.

Yet the Gospels present a radically different picture of Jesus. As author and pastor A.W. Tozer famously observed:

"In the gospels, we read that Jesus ate & talked with sinners. He knew why He was there. He was not approving their wickedness. He was there because it was His nature to offer help & forgiveness & salvation."

Fasting isn't merely about abstaining from physical food or routine distractions—it is about actively turning away from sin and intentionally stepping into the presence of the One who offers total renewal.

Table Fellowship with the Broken

The religious leaders of Jesus' day struggled to understand His heart. In Mark 2:15–17, when the Pharisees questioned why Jesus was sharing a meal with tax collectors and outcasts, Jesus offered a profound clarification of His entire mission:

"It is not those who are healthy who need a physician, but those who are sick; I did not come to call the righteous, but sinners." — Mark 2:17

Jesus didn't wait for people to clean up their lives before inviting them to sit at His table. He met them in the midst of their brokenness, offering healing, forgiveness, and a path toward true holiness.

Today, that same invitation stands open. No matter what you are carrying or what mistakes lie in your past, spending intentional time with Jesus brings the spiritual alignment and grace that no self-effort can manufacture.

Bringing Our Hearts Before God This Week

As we continue in prayer and fasting together, let's bring these focus points to the Lord:

  • Honest Confession: Bringing our sins and failures into the light, trusting in His compassionate nature to forgive and cleanse.

  • Receiving His Healing: Allowing Jesus to minister to the spiritual sickness and broken places we cannot fix on our own.

  • True Repentance: Turning away from self-reliance and returning wholeheartedly to His presence.

  • Pursuing Transformation: Desiring genuine holiness and radical life change over religious externalism.
