Feasting at the King’s Table and Why the World's Delights Fade Away
When you draw close to God, the things that once consumed your attention begin to lose their power. The entertainment, approval, status, and material comforts offered by the world don't just become secondary—they start to feel entirely hollow.
Charles Spurgeon captured this shift in spiritual appetite:
"You will generally notice that when the believer gets near to God, tastes the unseen joys and eats the bread that was made in heaven, all the feasts of earth, all its amusements, and all its glories seem very flat, stale, and unprofitable."
From Stale Scraps to Heavenly Manna
Why settle for the stale crusts of worldly entertainment when we have direct access to daily manna from heaven? Every promise of satisfaction offered by culture is temporary and leaves the soul empty. But even a single scrap from the King’s table carries more authority, life, and fulfillment than all the heaps of earthly pleasure combined.
In Psalm 23:5, David writes:
"You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies..."
God does not call His children to scavenge for survival in a broken world. He sets a bountiful, overflowing table in the middle of spiritual conflict. As you fast today, turn your attention away from empty substitutes and feast on the true Bread of Life.
In John 6:35, Jesus declares:
"I am the bread of life; the one who comes to Me will not be hungry..."
Through Christ’s broken body and shed blood, the door to the Father’s presence is permanently open. Feast on His presence with gratitude today, knowing that in Him, your soul lacks nothing.
