This week as we fast, let’s explore what it means to feast on God. Scripture calls us to the Great Commandment—to love the Lord our God with all our heart, all our soul, all our mind, and all our strength (Mark 12:30). But what does that really look like? How do we “feast” on Him daily?
To feast on God is to let His Word and the gospel be our daily bread—our first pursuit, our deepest joy. Jesus said, “Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.” (Matthew 4:4). When we feed on His presence, His truth, and His promises, we discover His commands are not burdensome. Instead, they become life-giving.
Paul reminds us: “Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances” (1 Thessalonians 5:16–18). Imagine how different our days would look if we truly lived this way—filled with constant joy, prayer, and gratitude. This is the fruit of feasting on God through the gospel.
A Practical Way to Feast on God
A great way to start is by taking a verse like John 12:23–24: “The hour has come for the Son of Man to be glorified. Truly, truly, I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it bears much fruit.” Meditate on it until it becomes one with your heart, until God puts faith inside you for that Word to be fulfilled in your life.
This was the key for a powerful man of God, who testified of being healed from three incurable illnesses as he clung to God’s Word. Meditate, share the verses, and speak about them. Another powerful verse to carry in your spirit is Galatians 2:20: “I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.”
Repentance That Leads to Feasting
To feast on God, we must also starve the flesh. Begin to wean off the social media platforms that consume your time and affections. Do this by getting an accountability partner after deeply repenting before a holy, loving God. Read and meditate on Psalm 51 until it shapes your prayers of repentance.
Choose an accountability partner who lives at the spiritual level you long to reach. Like Joshua served Moses, serve that person in prayer and practical ways. And take tangible steps in repentance—put measures in place that cost you something if you disobey, whether financially or however God leads you. True repentance is not just words or prayers, but actions that align with the gospel.
The gospel is not only the power of God for salvation, but also the daily feast that sustains us. As we pray today, let’s ask the Lord to make us a people who are consumed with love for Him, so full that we overflow with the gospel to others.
Thank you again for fasting, praying, and giving. You are fueling a movement of prayer and the spread of the gospel across this nation.
Blessings in Christ,
