You Must Flight From the Wrath to Come And Here Is What Happen If You Will

In the 1730s and 1740s, during the heights of the First Great Awakening, Jonathan Edwards stood before congregations and delivered an uncompromising message. In his famous sermon, "Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God," he painted the stark reality of divine judgment, human vulnerability, and the infinite urgency of God's mercy:

"Therefore, let anyone who does not now know Christ awake & fly from the wrath to come. The wrath of Almighty God is now undoubtedly hanging over a great part of this congregation. Let everyone fly out of Sodom!! Run for your lives! Don't look back! Escape to the mountain, lest you be consumed!"

When Edwards spoke, listeners wept, held onto pew rails, and cried out in distress: "What shall we do to be saved?!"

Pierced to the Heart

This reaction was not new—it mirrors the very birth of the New Testament Church. On the day of Pentecost, when Peter proclaimed the truth of Jesus Christ with unyielding boldness, the crowd experienced a profound, Holy Spirit-driven conviction.

Acts 2:37–38 records:

"Now when they heard this, they were pierced to the heart, & said to Peter & the rest of the apostles, 'Brothers, what are we to do?' Peter said to them, 'Repent, & each of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; & you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.'"

True revival does not bypass conviction. It exposes the weight of sin, the reality of eternity, and the absolute necessity of repentance. When the uncompromising Gospel is preached, hearts are pierced, lives are altered, and souls flee to the cross for salvation.

Today, God is still calling and sending laborers into the harvest field with this urgent, life-saving message. The question remains: Will you take it and run?

Our Prayer Focus Today

As we continue in prayer and fasting, let us set our hearts on these intercessory targets:

  • Sweeping Revival: Believing God for a sovereign, Holy Spirit-driven awakening that turns communities and nations back to Him.

  • Deep Conviction & Repentance: Asking the Holy Spirit to pierce hearts across cities, bringing a holy fear of God and genuine sorrow for sin.

  • Pursuit of Holiness: Praying for believers to live set-apart, consecrated lives that reflect the purity and truth of Jesus.

  • Uncompromising Proclamation: Asking for bold witnesses who preach the full Gospel—including the reality of judgment and the glory of God's mercy.

  • Gen Z & Gen Alpha Fire: Interceding for young people to rise up unashamed, declaring the Gospel with fearlessness and signs following.
