The 100-Year Prayer: Keeping the Fire on the Altar Burning
On August 12, 1727, a small community of Moravian believers in Herrnhut, Germany, experienced a powerful outpouring of the Holy Spirit. In response, they launched a continuous prayer vigil: two to three people praying in one-hour increments, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. All 168 hours of the week were filled without a single gap.
That single prayer meeting lasted for over 100 years.
It was from this unceasing altar of intercession that the modern Protestant missionary movement was born, sending believers to the ends of the earth to share the Gospel.
Keeping the Flame Alive
In Leviticus 6:12, God commanded the priests:
"The fire on the altar shall be kept burning on it; it shall not go out."
When the Church commits to relentless, unceasing prayer, circumstances shift, breakthroughs occur, captives are set free, and nations are transformed. Can you imagine what would happen if today's Church reclaimed this kind of radical devotion? How quickly would our communities be changed? How rapidly would the Gospel reach every unreached soul?
Dedicated intercession is not just an activity—it is the engine of global movement and personal transformation. As we set ourselves apart in prayer and fasting, God meets us with fiery encounters that change us from the inside out.
